Oculus House, Queenstown is an interior shaped by landscape, not as backdrop, but as something felt in every room. Architecture by Condon Scott Architects positions the home within a square footprint that frames expansive views toward the Remarkables, Crown Terrace and Coronet Peak. Inspired by this setting, the interior design was conceived to carry a continuous sense of place throughout.
Our approach drew directly from the surrounding alpine environment. Dustings of silver snow across mottled peaks, effervescent riverbeds in ebb and flow, and rocky edges softened by shawls of mossy green informed the material palette, tonal shifts and layered textures, allowing each space to feel quietly connected to its setting.
All furniture and lighting were carefully curated to complement this restraint, alongside considered finishes and bespoke joinery throughout. Custom pieces, including the primary bedroom bedhead and side tables, bathroom joinery and entry console, were designed to feel integral rather than imposed.
Subtle seasonal cues also shaped the interior language. The deep red leaves of the central Japanese Maple were echoed in the stone selections, introducing gentle warmth and depth through mineral veining and natural variation.
The home invites considered, intentional living. Where light moves softly, nature is felt rather than viewed, and each space encourages calm, presence and retreat.
